American Legion, Post 145
Where Norway’s Veterans continue to serve.
American Legion Hall Post 145 is Norway, Michigan's central gathering place for veterans of all eras to connect and build community through shared experiences. Legion members actively engage in the community year-round, providing veteran service and advocacy, creating opportunities for local youth, and offering event space available to the public in Downtown Norway.
The Legion Hall is available to rent and can host 300 occupants with kitchen and bar services. Popular events regularly held in the hall include wedding receptions, graduation parties, life events and downtown markets. A popular breakfast is served on the last Sunday of each month, currently offering all you can eat for $10.
The Hall is available for school and community groups to host fundraisers, events, and various charitable programs.
Veterans' services are an ongoing commitment for members of the Legion. Post 145 collaborates with the Norway VFW to conduct graveside last rites for community veterans. This often includes active-duty personnel from the relevant military branch, if requested by their families. Members of the Norway Post frequently participate in services with funeral teams from Iron Mountain, as well as with funeral homes across Dickinson County and Northern Wisconsin.
Post 145 provides an honor guard for various parades and ceremonies throughout the year. Members officiate at events in local schools and collaborate with volunteers and schoolchildren to place and remove over 1,300 small grave-site flags at the Norway Cemetery on Memorial Day. Legion members are alsoNorway Independence Day parade.
The Norway Legion prioritizes youth sports activities and academic opportunities. Post 145 sponsors an American Legion baseball team and has supported approximately 20 high school juniors from the Norway area to attend Boys and Girls State. This program provides hands-on leadership training focused on local and state government.
Post 145 invites all veterans, regardless of age or gender, to become members of the Legion. Currently, there are 70 members and meetings take place on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM. Membership in the American Legion is open to any honorably discharged veteran who served at least one day of active duty from December 7, 1941, to the present. Service during a congressionally declared conflict is no longer a requirement for membership.
